Mau's Good Ole PowWow

This used to be a blog about my backpacking journey from SF to the OC, but now I guess its going to be about everything that peaks my interests.

It’s a time-honored tradition at Navy homecomings – one lucky sailor is chosen to be first off the ship for the long-awaited kiss with a loved one. Today, for the first time, the happily reunited couple was gay.
The dock landing ship Oak Hill has been gone for nearly three months, training with military allies in Central America.
As the homecoming drew near, the crew and ship’s family readiness group sold $1 raffle tickets for the first kiss. Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta bought 50 - which is actually fewer than many people buy, she said, so she was surprised Monday to find out she’d won.
Her girlfriend of two years, Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell, was waiting when she crossed the brow.
They kissed. The crowd cheered. And with that, another vestige of the policy that forced gays to serve in secrecy vanished.

Shit. Fuck you DAWASA. I fucking advised you on this. I’ll be there tomorrow.

beseenandsafe:

Heavy rains for the past 3 days have caused severe flooding in Dar es Salaam. As of this morning at least 12 people were reported dead and the number is likely to increase. As bridges collapse and homes wash away, the rain continues to fall.

The Party Down Movie is (Actually) Happening
Grantland’s Andy Greenwald just got back from the set of Parks & Recreation with exciting news: They are making a Party Down movie, and it’s happening soon. Adam Scott revealed details:

“We have a treatment,” he said “and if everyone’s schedules work out, we’ll shoot it over the summer.” This info comes on the heels of a previous revelation that the film had a production company lined up and was only waiting on the go-ahead from Starz.

With news like this, only one question springs to mind:

Fuck yes.

Been following this. Real interesting project. christophercopywriter:

Oxford University student, Alwyn Collinson, using the Twitter account @RealTimeWWII, has undertaken a six year project to Tweet the events of the Second World War as they happened. Yup, he’s sending up to 40 Tweets daily of reportage from the ‘battlefield’, re-living the dramas and tensions as they happened and spicing the feed up with eyewitness testimony and newsreel footage. Hmmm, wonder if history will find a way of re-inventing itself?
